Non-MX Articles: John Shea (12/09 Hawke)

Excerpt from Burj Review 12/18/09: John Shea

More Classic Audiobooks
Friday, December 18, 2009

HAWKE by Ted Bell is an exciting adventure novel set in Cuba about the English descendent of the pirate Blackhawke--a man turned decorated naval hero who is investigating the the disappearance of a Soviet stealth submarine, and comes up against a plot to overthrow Castro by some modern day pirates. Read by actor John Shea, HAWKE was a first for Bell, and rivals Clive Cussler's fiction for action and adventure. However, we do recommend listening to this audiobook at home, rather than in heavy traffic, because while Shea nails all the accents and characters here, his dramatic tendencies are toward an intense whisper sometimes, which may have you fiddling with your car's volume control. So enjoy doing your dusting, dishes, and yes, even windows.

© Burj Review

Non-MX Articles: Lauren Lee Smith (6/07 After Ellen's Hot 100)

Excerpt from After Ellen 6/6/07: Lauren Lee Smith

The 2007 AfterEllen.com Hot 100
by AfterEllen.com Staff
June 6, 2007

Let's face it: Maxim doesn't cater to lesbians. In fact, you could say it flies in the face of all that we hold dear, especially when it declares Lindsay Lohan the hottest of them all, as it did when it published The Maxim Hot 100 List last month. So we asked you, our readers, to create your own list of hotties, and you came out in droves to nominate the women you think deserve to be on the AfterEllen.com Hot 100 List. Thousands of votes later, we have the results.

How is our list different from Maxim's? Eight of the top 10 women on our list aren't mentioned anywhere on the Maxim list (Angelina Jolie and Lena Headey are the exceptions), and only four of the women who made Maxim's top 10 (Jessica Alba, Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Biel and Lindsay Lohan) appear somewhere on the AfterEllen.com list.

Clearly, what straight men and lesbians find sexy in a woman is a little bit different.

"Hot" for lesbians and bisexual women comes in all ages, sizes, colors and styles, as the diversity of women on our list demonstrates — from Tina Fey (No. 7) and Helen Mirren (No. 31), to Ellen DeGeneres (No. 50), America Ferrera (No. 30) and Queen Latifah (No. 55). There's even a conservative Republican in the mix (Angie Harmon, No. 82), proving we can still find a women sexy even if we don't agree with her alternative lifestyle choice.

The list also shows that we like women who like us — slightly over half the women on the AfterEllen.com Hot 100 List have played queer characters at one time or another. Eight of the women (nine, if you count Drew Barrymore) are openly lesbian or bisexual; they're noted with an asterisk (*) next to their name.

But there is one thing all the women on the list have in common: They're more than just pretty faces. Many of these women aren't just women we like, they're women we want to be like — women we admire as well as desire.

On our list, heat has depth. And Leisha (No. 1) beats Lindsay (No. 79) by a mile.

Now, on to the AfterEllen.com Hot 100 List! The women are listed in ascending order according to your votes. We've provided photos and descriptions for the first 20 women, and after that, just names and photos. At the end, you can add your comments telling us what you think about the women who ended up on the list. Enjoy!
....

76. Jennifer Connelly
77. Kelly Clarkson
78. Lauren Lee Smith
79. Lindsay Lohan
80. Sara Ramirez

© After Ellen

Non-MX Articles: George Buza, Cedric Smith (1/09 X-Men DVD)

The first two releases, simply entitled Volume 1 and Volume 2, have street dates of April 28. Both collections have suggested retail prices of $23.98. Volume 1 is two disks and times in at 368 minutes. The second is also two disks and times in at 391 minutes.

This is all the information Disney Home Video has released to retailers as of this time.

The series originally aired on Fox Kids from 1992-1997. It was the creation of producer/directors Larry Houston and Frank Squillace. It’s known as the second-longest running series on Fox Kids, with 76 episodes, after Batman: The Animated Series. It is the longest running Marvel-based animated series, just ahead of Spider-Man: The Animated Series, which had 65. With the collapse of Fox Kids, Disney bought out the Saban-owned part of the series, and is now running repeats on Toon Disney (soon to become Disney XD).

The main mutants featured on the series included Cyclops (Norm Spencer), Jean Grey (Catherine Disher), Wolverine (Cal Dodd), Storm (Iona Morris/Allison Sealy-Smith), Rogue (Lenore Zann), Beast (George Buza), Nightcrawler (Paul Haddad), Jubilee (Alyson Court) and, naturally, Dr. Charles Xavier (Cedric Smith). It redid classic X-Men comic book story arcs such as Days of Future Past, the Dark Phoenix Saga and Legacy Virus generally to overall fan satisfaction.

Considered one of the most popular animated TV series of all time (at least for Marvel and many comic book fans), the show has long been unavailable on DVD.

© Newsarama

Non-MX Interviews: Michael Easton (10/98 Starburst)

Starburst 10/98: Michael Easton, on Synchronicity

Easton Promise: Forget Arnie. The Total Recall TV series gets back to Philip K. Dick.
By Thomasina Gibson

MICHAEL EASTON, star of Total Recall 2070, television's newest Sci-Fi series, has some strong views about his involvement in this ground-breaking production due to blast onto screens early next year. In fact, he's sent out an impassioned plea to anyone who's reading this. "I'm enthusiastic," he protests, "But if you see the show understand that I am nothing but an untenured servant and if you have any feelings at all you should send in the heavy artillery and rescue me. I'm in Canada," he shouts, "up in Toronto! So come from far and near, just break through the barriers and get me the hell off this set!"

Lisa, the long suffering publicist flashes him a serious Mrs. Brown-type glare and offers me some assistance. "If you need help, just yell," she sighs and leaves us to it.

Dismissed, Easton leans forward and whispers conspiratorially, "I'm doing this against my will. In every scene you see, there's a look on my face ... like pain." After a graphic demonstration he confides that he's also going to try to send out subliminal messages every two minutes.

Here's a funny thing
Having been warned about this New Yorker's dramatic sense of humour, I sympathize with his predicament then ask how he got involved in this ambitious project in the first place. He looks me straight in the eye and grins, "I was in a poker game and I lost." I briefly consider abandoning the mission and think about joining the Latin-dance session taking place on the set before giving the frivolous Mr. Easton a decidedly withering look which thankfully restores some semblance of sanity.

"It was one of those things," he shrugs. "They sent the script over to me, and to be honest with you, when I saw the Total Recall name I just went 'not interested'. I mean when you think of the lead in Total Recall the movie, you think Arnold Schwarzenegger -- and I'm just not like him." He modestly figured that "even pumped up a little" people would be disappointed so passed on the offer the first time. Mind you, he already had more than enough work to keep him busy. Prior to being shackled to this set, he was regularly strutting his stuff on many US television shows including the award-winning Ally McBeal.

Fortunately, the powers that be were persistent. Insisting that the series was quite unlike the movie in many ways, they suggested Easton really should give the script a try. He's delighted he took their advice. Total Recall 2070 is destined to become the most talked about Sci-Fi series in years. From its distinguished writers and producers, including Jeff King (Due South) and Art Mantorastelli (NYPD Blue) to the stunning visual images created by Gajdecki Visual Effects (Stargate SG-1) this production exudes 'quality' from the start.

Easton's jovial manner is indicative of the camaraderie which permeates the specially-designed 1,000-square-foot production area yet whilst everyone appears relaxed and at ease, there's an air of quiet excitement which suggests the cast, crew and staff feel they are on to a winner.

Situated in the not so distant future, Total Recall 2070 pays as much homage to the classic Blade Runner as any other film and depicts a world where six mighty conglomerates combine to rule every facet of life on the planet. The series draws much of its inspiration from Philip K. Dick's work with the Total Recall chair remaining one of the elements of the original movie which is prevalent throughout.

Easton is a big fan of Dick's stories, which is another reason why the role attracted his interest. He plays a law enforcement officer, detective David Hume -- a regular guy struggling to retain his 'human-ness' in a society increasingly dependent on scientific and technological advancements. "He's a bit retro trying to hold onto and regulate the balance between the sinister aspects of robotics, genetics and cloning that's going on around him. He's kind of old-fashioned which really appealed to me."

Good cop, Robo-cop
"We're doing things on a scale which has never been seen on television before."

One of the highly entertaining arcs of the show looks at the relationship between Hume and his screen partner An Favre, a distinct 'odd-ball' played by Karl Pruner. Hume can't quite make out what makes him seem so strange at first, but when it transpires that he's been teamed with an android is less than enthralled. "The guy is the last thing on Earth he wants to pair up with and so out of that you get the kind of good cop/bad cop sort of thing going on." It's only a couple of weeks into production but Easton hopes their attempts at bonding will grow into something an audience will view as special. Thoughtful for a moment he says, "It's ironic because Hume is having a relationship with his partner who wants to become more human, whilst his wife (Cyndy Preston) is moving further towards the technology and wants to fulfill her life by bringing a 'sublimator chair' into their home.

We joke about the fact that some of the most recent TV successes have focused on the underlying sexual tension between the main characters. Easton dead pans that "Karl's character isn't programmed for that type of behaviour -- but if the ratings start to plummet who knows what they'll do."

Wisely changing the subject, I ask what he really things about the show. He's bright with genuine enthusiasm. "Every time you're offered a role, you're told 'wait till you meet the cast; wait till you see the set; wait till you see the effects'. In this case, it's absolutely true. We're doing things on a scale which have never been seen on television before. I'm proud to be even a small part of it."

© Starburst

Non-MX Interviews: Michael Easton (9/97 Soap Opera News)

Soap Opera News 9/23/97: Michael Easton, on Synchronicity

Easton Exposure: Former DAYS heartthrob Michael Easton puts his career hopes on Hope Street
By Jeffrey Epstein

"I never select the right role," sighs Michael Easton (ex-Tanner, DAYS). "It's a joke with all my friends. If there's the best role on TV as well as a quirky, offbeat one, I go for the quirky offbeat one that won't last three weeks. I'll do anything if I like the part."

After roles in the short-lived sci-fi show VR.5 and the Fugitive-like series Two -- he played twins, one good, one evil -- Easton hopes to break the chain as a member of Fox's new ensemble drama 413 Hope Street. He plays Nick Carrington, an ex-heroin addict cut off from his wealthy family. Nick is now a counselor at a teen crisis center, running the sports program. "He'll be counseling Carlos, whose addiction cost him his wife and baby," says Easton, who consulted youth and drug counselors in preparation for the role.

After Two wrapped last January, Easton went to New York to relax, believing the show would be renewed for the upcoming season. He recently heard otherwise. "I was out of work for about a month," he reveals.

Easton used his downtime to read scripts, although he wasn't sure he wanted to return to primetime immediately. "I wasn't planning to jump back into TV, but then Hope Street popped up," he says. "It was a great script, and I said, "'I want to be a part of it.'"

Nick is also a change from his heart-stealing role as Tanner Scofield on Days of Our Lives, Easton points out, recalling his two-year stint in Salem as a mixed blessing. "The good part was having a regular gig, and the bad part is, you have a regular gig."

"I enjoyed it, I really did, but after a while, it just got tiring," he admits. "With a film, you prepare for your role, you go in, you do it and you go home and relax. Making a soap work day in and day out is very difficult. What those people do on a daily basis mentally and physically is just incredible. I learned that discipline, but I didn't enjoy it."

Discipline, Easton admits, is clearly not his strong suit. In fact, he has the dubious distinction of being expelled from New York University. In fact, he has the dubious distinction of being expelled from New York University. "I was a 19-year-old bartender at the Palladium, which meant I was working until 5 o'clock every morning and not showing up for school," he remembers. "I never thought they'd throw me out. They eventually said, 'You know what?' and they tossed me!"

It proved to be a blessing in disguise. Once Easton left NYU, he began pursuing his theatrical career in earnest. A casting director spotted him in a play and asked him to audition for DAYS. "I had like four million dollars in student loans, so I decided, 'So much for being a pretentious New York actor. I'm flying to L.A. to do this audition!" he says with a laugh.

Besides making money on DAYS, Easton made several lifelong pals, including Rob Mailhouse, who played Tanner's brother Brian, and Savannah beauty Shannon Sturges, who was his love interest Molly Brinker. "She's one of my best friends," he smiles. "I love them both to death."

Stretching his creative wings, Easton recently wrote a script, Monty, about the late movie star Montgomery Clift. But he won't land the title role -- the producers are eyeing some of Hollywood's biggest names to play Clift. "They're looking at Ralph Fiennes," Easton says hopefully.

While he misses New York, "You go where the work is," Easton acknowledges. And at the moment, his only major attachment is his dog, Boutros -- named for former U.N. Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali. "I'm just cruising through right now," he grins. "I'm just hanging out."

© Soap Opera News

You have READ/WRITE access. You may ask up to 10 questions, until this auditorium reaches its maximum of 2500 questions.

Moderator (Speaker)
Michael Easton, perhaps best known for his starring roles on NBC's "Days of Our Lives," FOX-TV's "VR.5," and the syndicated series "Two," now stars in FOX's new one-hour dramatic series "413 Hope St." Easton portrays a rich kid who rejected his wealth, got hooked on heroin, kicked the habit after a near-death experience, and now counsels kids on the dangers of drugs. The show airs Thursdays at 9PM ET/PT... OK, folks. HERE'S MICHAEL EASTON!!!

Michael Easton (Speaker)
Hi everyone!

Moderator (Speaker)
Great to have you here, Michael... Thanks for joining us tonight!

swimguy (Prodigy Member)
Tell us about "413 Hope Street"--how did you get involved in the show and what's your character all about?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
"413 Hope Street" is Fox, Thursdays @ 9 p.m. It's produced by Damon Wayans and the show is about an inner-city youth clinic that counsels young people in NYC on drug addiction, AIDS, teen pregnancy, etc. I play a counselor who is himself a recovering heroin addict. The show also stars Richard Roundtree, best known as Shaft, and it's loosely based on a clinic in NYC called "The Door."

swimguy (Prodigy Member)
Have you gotten to work much with Damon Wayans? What's your impression of him?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
Damon's not actually working on the show. He's executive producing it, and spent some time at The Door when he was a young man. Damon is very hands-on when he's at the set. He's incredibly funny when he wants to be. If you do something remotely funny, his laugh is the loudest, and he has an amazingly insightful side as well. We're very fortunate to be working with him.

FredsHotStuf (Prodigy Member)
Are you concerned at all with going up against "Seinfeld" in the 9PM Thursday slot?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
I'm a fan of "Seinfeld," but I don't really worry about that. "Seinfeld" has their audience, and we're not going to affect them. We'll see...but I hope a show with good intentions that's trying to offer something different will find an audience. Peter Roth, who heads Fox, believes in the show, and hopefully he'll stay behind it.

Moderator (Speaker)
In 1992, Michael Easton was named one of PEOPLE MAGAZINE's "Most Beautiful People." Please write to our guest now with your questions and comments.

KeepSurfin (Prodigy Member)
Michael, are you aware there is a mailing list and website dedicated to you? What are your opinions on this?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
I had no idea....I'm flattered, of course.

FredsHotStuf (Prodigy Member)
How did you get interested in poetry?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
It was my first love. I was reading and writing poetry before I started acting. It was a great influence on my life.

FredsHotStuf (Prodigy Member)
How would you characterize your book of poems that's coming out?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
Without making too much of it, it's about a three to four year period of life when I was going through some tough times, and it's pretty edgy, but heartfelt. The book will be published in late October by Bowery Press.

Moderator (Speaker)
413 HOPE ST. is a new Fox TV series that airs Thursdays at 9PM ET/PT. In a review of last week's debut episode, the NY POST gave the show 4 STARS! In addition to Michael Easton, the ensemble cast includes veteran actor Richard Roundtree. The show's executive producer is feature film star and comedian Damon Wayans... Please write to Michael Easton now with your questions and comments.

swimguy (Prodigy Member)
I read that you were on "VR.5"--who did you play, and how did you enjoy working in the science fiction area?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
Probably my favorite thing that I've ever done was in "VR.5." I played Lori Singer's upstairs neighbor. I liked it because they let me grow my hair long and I got to play a goofball, and coming off a soap, that was a lot of fun. VR.5 was my introduction to computers and I got really into it. The show itself was a little ahead of it's time.

Crissy Too (Prodigy Member)
How old are you Michael?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
Between late 20s and early 30s...that's vague for casting directors out there, not for you.

DJ LOVER (Prodigy Member)
Did you like working with all the woman? Who was your favorite?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
It had to be Shannon Sturges, from "Days of Our Lives," who went on to do "Savannah." She has a great sense of humor.

FredsHotStuf (Prodigy Member)
Did you ever have anything embarrassing happen to you on "Days of Our Lives?"

Michael Easton (Speaker)
Being on "Days" was at times a constant source of embarrassment...adapting to sharing yourself on a show every day was embarrassing...the most embarrassing thing? The show is filmed at NBC Studios in Burbank. After the earthquake, I was on the set with an actress, and all the lights started to shake. We ran into the set doorway to hide--which was right under the lights! The crew cracked up pretty good at that one.

swimguy (Prodigy Member)
"Two" came and went pretty quickly last year, but I enjoyed the show. Did you enjoy your time on the series?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
I enjoyed it immensely. It was a lot of hard work, up in Vancouver. I got to play two characters and a lot of amazing green screen effects. Working for Stephen Cannell was a real treat. I grew up watching his shows. It was a great opportunity as an actor to try a lot of things out.

FredsHotStuf (Prodigy Member)
Did you have to do a lot of research for your screenplay on Montgomery Clift?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
I read every book that was written--6 of them--over 100 articles in newspapers and magazines. I spoke with 20 people who worked with him. It was four years of research. The script is in the casting stages right now. Billy Hopkins will direct it. He's a big Clift fan. His passion seemed perfect for it. Now we're just looking for the right person to play Monty.

Michael Easton (Speaker)
It will not be me. I think sometimes you do what's right for the film. It would be nice to make the best film and be so indulgent that I have to play the part--I'm a little young to play it--maybe someone in their late 30s.

FredsHotStuf (Prodigy Member)
What kind of person was Montgomery Clift?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
Why did I want to write a movie about him? I used to stay up late watching old movies, and when I was 12, I watched "A Place in the Sun," and his performance motivated me to become an actor. He led a very unusual, bizarre life, and it sort of summed up what it was like to spend time in this community.

FredsHotStuf (Prodigy Member)
Is it true that Elizabeth Taylor was in love with him and he rejected her?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
Absolutely. She was very much in love with him...Marilyn Monroe was in love with him too. But he was bisexual and had a difficult time coming to terms with relationships. Liz is a big part of the screenplay, because she and Monty were friends for over 20 years.

Moderator (Speaker)
Sounds like a great story... We'll be looking for that one!

swimguy (Prodigy Member)
"People Magazine" once called one of the most beautiful people around...how did that honor affect your life?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
It would probably die if I never did another interview...but it always comes up in these situations....the whole thing came out of the blue. I didn't even have a publicist at the time....it didn't affect things much. My mother was happy though.

Michael Easton (Speaker)
When you're on a soap opera, you get marriage proposals all the time....if you can deal with the soap opera fans and some of the interesting things that happens, you can deal with anything. You get flowers, pictures, books, tapes--everything, in the mail.

NOWTHEN (Prodigy Member)
Hi Michael ! My aunt Rosiland Cash was on the "General Hospital" and I am a young actress and would like to know how did you get your start in television ?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
The first thing I ever did on TV was "Days of Our Lives." I was doing a play in NY that I wrote. We couldn't afford to pay actors, so we did the parts ourselves. A casting director came backstage and said it was the worst play she'd ever seen, but "you're not a bad actor." A few weeks later, I was on Days.

Moderator (Speaker)
Michael Easton is currently reviewing your questions and answering as quickly as possible. We're glad you could join us tonight... Please continue to write in with your questions and comments.

FredsHotStuf (Prodigy Member)
Did you like doing a soap opera?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
Yes I did. I met some nice people. It was a good learning opportunity. Soaps are kind of like a relationship. A lot of times it's just chemical--the attraction. For me, it became kind of difficult after awhile, but it was great while it lasted. The fans have been incredibly supportive over the years. The best fans in the world are soap fans...incredibly loyal.

swimguy (Prodigy Member)
Your bio talks about your poetry. What sort of stuff do you write, and was it hard getting published?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
It was very hard to get my poetry published...so hard, I never even thought about trying...when I was doing Two, I fell in with some writers up there. They have a really good literary community up there, I ran into an agent, he sent it in, and I had never ever thought of doing it, because no one publishes poetry anymore, so I'm amazed that it's coming out, and prouder of it than anything else I've ever done.

Moderator (Speaker)
In addition to acting, Easton is also a poet. "Eighteen Straight Whiskeys," a 96-page collection of raw, hard-edged emotional musings, will be published by Bowery Press in October.... In addition, Easton's screenplay, "Monty" (about the life and times of Montgomery Clift), was recently optioned and is scheduled to begin production next month. Billy Hopkins ("The Rock," "Nixon") is set to direct...

swimguy (Prodigy Member)
How's "413 Hope Street" doing in the ratings?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
We had a really good opening on Thursday. The show finished no. 54 out of 112 shows, so they were pleased. I don't put a lot of stock in first week's ratings. Let's see what happens in the second and third week. "VR.5" did great the first week, but two weeks later, they disappeared. It takes awhile for a show to find its legs and for word of mouth to spread. So hopefully you'll all start talking about the show.

Moderator (Speaker)
The "NY Post" gave last week's debut show FOUR STARS in their review!!!

FredsHotStuf (Prodigy Member)
What are your feelings about recreational use of drugs or alcohol?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
Alcohol is legal for people over 21; if it's not abused it's fine. Recreational drug use--it's tough. I watched an old routine the other night by a comedian named Billy Hicks--he said that anybody who said drugs don't do any good should go home and throw out all their albums from the 1960s and 70s., I don't use drugs, but I know some people who have gotten something out of it.

All2ThAgOoD (Prodigy Member)
How did you get the part on the show?!

Michael Easton (Speaker)
The standard audition...they had seen "Two." Fox acquired "Two," and they told us the show would be renewed. They changed their mind, so I was very disappointed with them for 3 weeks, then they called and asked me to meet with Damon Wayans and sent me this amazing script and I decided this opportunity doesn't come every day, so I went in at 10 a.m., met with Damon and everyone else involved with the show, and when I walked out, they asked me to go to the network at 5 p.m.

Michael Easton (Speaker)
So I went in, read for 30 people, and they told me I start tomorrow.

Blkman18 (Prodigy Member)
Hi, I was wondering what made u want to be an actor?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
I wanted to be a filmmaker. Writing and directing was my passion. When you go to film school, they make you take everything. I could walk away from acting, if it was the right situation. My goal is to some day make my own film.

Sali4th (Prodigy Member)
Hi, Really liked you in TWO. Really felt bad about how it ended. I guess we will never the truth about Gus and Booth.

Michael Easton (Speaker)
I feel bad about how it ended. We actually had an end storyline we were going to do if the show was canceled. But they never told us. We left, believing the show was coming back. It was difficult, because we wanted to end the show. There is a possibility they might do a TV movie to wrap things up, and that would be great. But they said the same thing about "VR.5." But "Two" was sold to 40 countries around the world. It's teamed with "The X-Files" in France. Who knows...maybe we'll get big overseas and they'll owe it to them to make a movie.

kcdawn (Prodigy Member)
Michael...If you were not an actor, what other profession do you see yourself doing?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
Bartending.

FredsHotStuf (Prodigy Member)
What's it like to work with Richard Roundtree?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
One of the nicest, sweetest people I've ever worked with. He is a commanding presence. A friend of mine worked with Sean Connery once, and Richard has a similar presence on the set, in that he's larger than life. He sets the tone for having a relaxed, casual cast.

swimguy (Prodigy Member)
You're apparently a big Montgomery Clift fan--how come, and what was your favorite Clift film?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
Favorite: "From Here to Eternity" or "A Place in the Sun."

All2ThAgOoD (Prodigy Member)
Do you have any children? Are you married?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
Not married, no children.

Moderator (Speaker)
If you missed an earlier part of tonight's chat, you can Jump: CHAT TRANSCRIPTS in a few days for a complete transcript of this and many other Prodigy Chat events. You can read a transcript online, or print it out, or save it to a file for later use.

All2ThAgOoD (Prodigy Member)
Even though this is not about Michael Easton, did "413 Hope St." replace "New York Undercover?" Did that show get canceled??

Michael Easton (Speaker)
I'm a big fan of "New York Undercover." It's a mid-season offering. We're doing 14 episodes, they're doing 14 episodes. I wish them well. I heard the show was moving to Saturdays.

CHARLETTE (Prodigy Member)
Have you traveled a lot and if so what was your favorite place?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
Throughout Europe...the best day I ever had was in Australia.

Moderator (Speaker)
In case you've joined us late...

Moderator (Speaker)
Michael Easton, perhaps best known for his starring roles on NBC's "Days of Our Lives," FOX-TV's "VR 5," and the syndicated series "Two," now stars in FOX's new one-hour dramatic series "413 Hope St." Easton portrays a rich kid who rejected his wealth, got hooked on heroin, kicked the habit after a near-death experience, and now counsels kids on the dangers of drugs. The show airs Thursdays at 9PM ET/PT...

Moderator (Speaker)
We still have time for a few more questions...

sweet4us (Prodigy Member)
What do you like to do in your spare time?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
I have a dog--that's my spare time right there.

XGARG (Prodigy Member)
What was your ending script on "Days?" and do you plan on going back?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
Last storyline on "Days": all I remember is Shannon ended up getting a job in Hollywood as an actress...I went along with her to be a grip on the set.

Michael Easton (Speaker)
Grips are the guys who move the equipment.

Moderator (Speaker)
If you missed an earlier part of tonight's chat, you can Jump: CHAT TRANSCRIPTS in a few days for a complete transcript of this and many other Prodigy Chat events. You can read a transcript online, or print it out, or save it to a file for later use.

Trader Guy (Prodigy Member)
Do you think you are a cool person?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
People who know me actually say I'm pretty goofy.

StellaB40 (Prodigy Member)
Michael will you soon be doing movies for the big silver screen?

Michael Easton (Speaker)
Would love to if I got offered the right stuff....I try not to have a medium bias....the script and character are what it's all about, whether it's theater, movies or television.

Moderator (Speaker)
You can check out a picture of Michael after the chat. Leave chat and JUMP: spotlight. "People Magazine" named him one of their "Most Beautiful People" in 1992...

Moderator (Speaker)
Here's a final question and closing comment from our guest...

Trader Guy (Prodigy Member)
Why did your mom name you Michael Easton and is that even your real name?????? Da Da Daaaaaaaa

Michael Easton (Speaker)
I have no idea. She just liked the name.

Michael Easton (Speaker)
Goodbye and thanks for all your support.
Non-MX Interviews: Michael Easton ('91 Soap Opera Weekly)

Soap Opera Weekly 1991: Michael Easton, on ME Corner

Easton & Sabatino Win 'World Series' Donate Winnings to Homeless
--JDL

What do the Babe Ruth Pygmies have in common with the Minnesota Twins? Both teams were World Series victors this year. The Twins won their title besting the Atlanta Braves, while the Pygmies -- co-owned by Michael Sabatino (Lawrence) and Michael Easton (Tanner) -- earned their No. 1 position by getting the highest score among teams participating in Days of Our Lives' 1991 world series of rotisserie baseball.
For anyone not familiar with the concept of rotisserie baseball, it's a game tat's become popular among the backstage crew at Days. Those interested in getting into the act buy a team, then "draft" real-life baseball players during the season. Players' stats -- batting averages and ERAs -- are all calculated to determine the victorious team at the end of the actual baseball season.
Althoug actors usually don't participate in the game, Easton and Sabatino decided to give it their best shot this year, and by some fluke managed to win. "The funny thing is that neither Michael nor I really knew what we were doing," admits Easton. "We just started picking the names of [players] we knew."
Meanwhile other, more seasoned participants went all out feeding statistics into computers to concoct the best (or so they thought) team. "We got lucky," says Easton. "So now there's a new rule going around the set that no new players can win their first year in the game."
In the meantime, Easton and Sabatino have decided to donate the Days league's winnings to the Los Angeles Mission to help feed the homeless this holiday season. All those interested in following Easton and Sabatino's leand can send donations to Los Angeles Mission, P.O. Box 563, Los Angeles, Calif. 90055-0630

© Soap Opera Weekly

Non-MX Interviews: Michael Easton (Fall '96 Soap Opera Weekly)

Soap Opera Weekly Fall '96: Michael Easton, on ME Fusion

"Michael Easton: Two of a Kind"
Star Track: Life After Soaps
By Rebecca Detken
Fall 1996

MICHAEL EASTON (Ex-TANNER SCOFIELD, Days of Our Lives) is leading two lives, he is portraying identical twin brothers on the new syndicated series Two.

The action-adventure series centers on Gus McClain, a happily married college professor whose life is turned upside-down when Booth Hubbard, his hitherto unknown evil twin, frames him for the murder of Gus' wife.

Separated at birth, the twins grew up in opposite environments. Gus has led the good life, while Booth traveled a more crooked road. "When Booth discovers he could have had the life Gus had, Booth decides to give him the life that he has," Easton explains. "In a way, it is a show about the differences in behavioral sciences and how you're a product of your environment."

Though Easton describes Gus as "a nice guy -- a thinking man's action her," the actor admits he prefers playing Booth. "The bad guys are always more fun to play. You can be more over the top, and Booth is definitely a little over the top.

Because of the series' premise, Easton notes that many have compared Two to The Fugitive. "No one believes that he has a twin, so he has to go out and prove what really happened." But Easton says that in a lot of ways the story parallels It's a Wonderful Life, because Gus is going through the "you don't really know what you have until it's taken away from you phase."

Playing the dual roles is a challenge, mainly because the scenes between the brothers are shot against a blue screen. "You have to throw out most of the things you know about acting and learn new techniques, because no one is there to interact with," explains Easton. "You really have to focus in and imagine yourself being there, and you have to react to what you know you're going to do on the other side."

In addition to starring in front of the Two cameras, Easton, who appeared last year in the Fox series VR.5, has managed to stay busy behind the scenes as well. He wrote the second episode of Two and also wrote, produced, directed and edited the short film Daedalus is Dead, which was recently accepted at the British Short Film Festival.

Two also stars Barbara Tyson (ex-Dawn Rollo, Another World; her name then was Barbara Bush). Consult local listings.

© Soap Opera Weekly

Non-MX Interviews: Michael Easton (9/96 Soap Opera Digest)

Soap Opera Digest 9/10/96: Michael Easton, on ME Fusion

"Michael Easton" (Ex-Tanner Scofield, Days Of Our Lives)

Michael Easton knew he was taking a considerable risk when he quit the role of DAYS OF OUR LIVES's Tanner in 1992. But today, you could say his gamble has paid off TWO fold. Easton has been cast as twins Gus McClain and Booth Hubbard in TWO, a new action/adventure series from thrillmeister, Stephen J. Cannell

TWO premieres in first-run syndication starting September 8, and co-stars another ex-soap star, Barbara Tyson. (If her name is not familiar, that's because Tyson used to be known as Barbara Bush when she played Dawn Rollo on ANOTHER WORLD from 1987-88. We can figure out why she changed her name ...) Tyson plays Terry Carter, an FBI agent who's pursuing Gus for crimes actually committed by his evil sibling, Booth. Easton says he is working almost seven days a week -- all the more reason producers prefer that he not do his own stunts. "I perform as many as I can," Easton offers, "but I leave the really good stuff for the pros."

Quitting DAYS wasn't easy, but Easton now says it was for the best. After saying good-bye to Tanner, the actor took a career sabbatical in order to deal with the loss of his mother, who had just died of cancer. "[My mom] was the most wonderful person," Easton says quietly. "I was closer to her than anyone. I had no desire to work during or after [that time]. Fortunately, I have an understanding agent."

When Easton did go back to auditioning, he landed a lead role in last season's sci-fi series VR.5. "It got great reviews," recalls Easton, "but only eight episodes aired. I don't know why [networks] expect shows to catch on right away. I understand canceling the crap, but series like MEDICINE BALL and PROFIT deserve to be on. Fans need to know shows will be there before they invest in them."

Easton's talents are also behind the camera, too. He wrote, directed and edited Daedalus is Dead, a short film starring Ami Dolenz (ex-Melissa, GENERAL HOSPITAL) and Kamar de los Reyes (Antonio, ONE LIFE TO LIVE). "Kamar's my best friend," Easton reveals. "We've known each other for seven years."

The actor also stays in touch with former DAYS lover Shannon Sturgess (ex-Molly, now SAVANNAH's REESE). "Shannon and Staci [Greason, ex-Isabella] saw me in a play I did in L.A. called The Door. Also, I still talk to Robert {Mailhouse, who played Tanner's big brother, Brian] He and I had a lot of fun working together."

© Soap Opera Digest

Here they are directly from his words:

"Yes Vicky just finished staring in a movie called 'Soda Springs'. It was filmed in and around Boise Idaho. She plays a character called Shelly, who runs a Feed Store (forfarm animals) in a small town. The lead character Eden, played by Jay Pickett - went to jail for a crime he didn't commit. When he gets out he returns to the small town that doesn't want him around anymore and falls in love with Shelly (Vicky). It's a story of redemption. It was low budget, but Vicky had a great time. Loved the cast and crew- and the small town atmosphere - of course Victoria comes from a very small farm town in Canada, so she could relate to everyone well.

© T.J.Scott and Victoria Pratt Forum

Non-MX Interviews: Michael Easton ('91 Soap Opera Weekly)

Soap Opera Weekly 1991: Michael Easton, on ME Corner

Taking on Tanner: Days of Our Lives' Michael Easton
-Caelie M. Haines

Character: The Mysterious Tanner Scofield, who may have witnessed Nick Corellis murder and who is also the brother of the policeman (Brian, played by Robert Mailhouse) investigating the crime.

Birthday: Feb. 15

Birthplace: "I was born here in Los Angeles while my folks were vacationing. They're from Ireland and were born and raised there, but they had moved to Australia, where I guess I was conceived, if you want to get personal. My father's best friend was getting married in Los Angeles; they came up for the wedding and I was born here. We lived here for about six months and then went back to Ireland."

Previous plans: "I was going to be an archeologist. When I got out of high school, I didn't really know what to do, so I took five months off and went traveling around Europe, did that rite of passage thing. I went to Greece and was going to go back for the first quarter of school, butended up missing it because I liked it there so much. [Later] I went to UCLA to study Greek history. [Then] I wanted to be a writer. I wanted to write plays. I think it was the Irish in me that inspired that. So I wrote these plays over at UCLA and my friends and I did them because we couldn't afford to pay any actors."

Life before Days: "I was a lifeguard at the beach. I lived in the Cayman Islands for a while and bartended down there. This was before the movie Cocktail, too. I also played in a reggae band there. [Back in L.A.] I read for a small part in a film Wings Hauser (ex-Greg Foster, The Young and the Restless) was directing and he ended up giving me one of the leads. It was called Cold Fire and it went straight to video. But we had such a good time on that film that I decided I only wanted to do film. This is a big side step, doing the soap."

Immpressions so far: "I came on with the attitude, 'OK, it's a career move and I hope it will lead to bigger things.' But I'm having a really good time here. The people are so unbelievably nice. When I go to work I actually enjoy the people -- going to work with them is really great. It never really matters where you are or what you're doing. If you're with friends or people you enjoy being with, then it makes it a good experience."

Talking Tanner: "I like to think of Tanner as kind of a Jack Keouac type. He's Brian's younger brother, and Brian, of course, is a good guy, a really respected person, so Tanner never really got along with him. And I like to think he just hopped on his motorcycle one day and took off for a few years. Now he's come back and he's kind of been drawn back into his family by accident. Right now, they (the Days writers) have got him being sort of a tough guy. He's witnessed something about the Corelli murder -- either he saw who did it or he knows something about it -- but he doesn't want to go to his brother because they have threatened to kill Brian if Tanner says anything. And even though he can't stand his brother when he's around him, he loves him and doesn't want anything to happen to him."

Rumors about romance: "There's a lot of rumors going around about what the show's going to do. Brian and Melissa (Camilla Scott) are starting to get involved, and there's the possibility of a love triangle between the brothers. But I don't know. Also, Sarah (Allie Brown) is coming back, and she's like 19 now, so..."

New York and Los Angeles: "I lived in New York for a year and I loved it. It really keeps your heart beating. In L.A., you can kind of lose your head and it won't cost you anything. In New York, you've got to be constantly on edge, always into life. Out here, living in Venice was the closest to that. There was always music going and gunshots (laughs)."

Famous friends: "I went to high school with Michael Brainard, who plays Joey on All My Children. We graduated the same year. I think it's kind of interesting that we've both ended up on soaps at the same time and everything."

Future fantasies: To be "a major star, I mean, MAJOR! (Laughs.) No, I don't really think that far ahead. I don't even think about next week. That doesn't sound good in an interview, maybe I should come up with another answer. But I don't like lying, and I don't want to come up with stock answers. As far as being an actor, I'd like to do some good work on the show. But no matter what happens with this part, I'll still go on doing good work as an actor. At least, I like to think I will."

Filling free time: "I've just moved, so I'm right in the middle of boxes. The only things exposed are my stereo, my telephone, and my conga drums. I play with a little conga band. We still play live, but I used to do it a lot more. But we may be starting a band at the show, Antony Alda (Johnny) plays drums, Robert Mailhouse plays bass and Ken Corday (executive producer) plays drums. We just need a singer. Camilla can sing those ballads, but we don't know if she can do rock and roll, and she doesn't want to audition. She just wants us to give her the job."

© Soap Opera Weekly
