Mutant X Websites: Mutant X Official Site

Over the years, the official Mutant X website's address was changed from Mutant X.com, to Mutant X.org, Mutant X.net, then Mutant Xtv.com, then back to Mutant X.net. All forms of the website had disappeared by the end of 2005.

This site has archives of mutantx.com from 2000; this site has archives of mutantxtv.com as it appeared in 2001, and this site has archives of mutantx.net from 2001-2005. For historical interest, I'm saving this information here in case this archive disappears as well; please note that none of the following material is my own.

MUTANT X

The next generation of mutants is coming this fall in a new television series -- MUTANT_X.

But you won't have to wait for fall. We're going to open an online window into the reality that will be MUTANT X.

Check back here for regular updates with news about the expansion of this site and the development of the show. Here are a few links to get you started:

Read about the story. Find out what's going on. Find out who's on board. See the cast and read the latest press release.

You can be notified whenever we make an update to this site. Fill out this form, and we'll send you an e-mail to let you know when something new shows up here.

You may be aware that Marvel Entertainment, Fireworks Entertainment and Tribune Entertainment are named in a dispute with Twentieth Century Fox, with Fox claiming that there may be some confusion about a relationship between "X-Men" and our MUTANT X. We have made it clear that the only relationship between "X-Men" and our MUTANT X television series is that each originates with Marvel, the publisher of "Spider Man," "The Incredible Hulk" and a whole host of other successful properties featuring superheroes. We want you to know that MUTANT X is not based on the "X-Men" property and is not in any way related to, licensed or approved by, or associated with the motion picture "X-Men" or Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation.

Moral Crossroads

Meddling with genetic destiny has brought humanity to a moral crossroads -- with dire consequences. Now there's only one hope for a future without fear.

Secret experiments to produce "designer babies" began in the 60's. They were initially successful in merely enhancing positive human traits for concerned parents. However, the scientists had not foreseen the long-term effects of their genetic meddling. Mutations appeared randomly as the test subjects aged. Mutations no one had counted on.

These mutants are out there, and they don't know what's happening to them.

Suddenly, normal lives are shattered when electricity begins shooting from fingertips; other people's secret thoughts come bombarding into an unprepared mind; athletic ability explodes into the grace and fury of a wild animal.

And -- they're not alone. They're being hunted. Those who created them wish to control them and their extraordinary abilities. They want the mutants back.

But somewhere out there is a sanctuary, a safehouse run by one of their own -- a mutant. He wants to give these confused souls the training and direction they need to control their own destiny, and he's putting together a group who can help them do just that. No matter who tries to stop him.

The fight starts here, and it's full scale war by fall.

Character Descriptions

Adam as played by John Shea
Adam, whose last name is shrouded in mystery, is arguably the smartest man alive - the strategist, tactician and moral center of Mutant X. It was his genetic research that inadvertently created New Mutants - and he takes as his responsibility the salvation of these innocent victims of society. Adam has the serenity of a warrior poet - the perfect leader for Mutant X.

Shalimar Fox as played by Victoria Pratt
Shalimar Fox is in her mid 20s, fiery, feral and stunning, a sensual beauty utterly in touch with her primal self. Blessed with both human and animal DNA, Shalimar has the strength, speed, and cunning of the animal kingdom…with a tempestuous nature to match. She is uncannily fast, inhumanly agile and sensually feline. Walking the line between human and feral, Shalimar is a little wild and completely unpredictable.

Brennan Mulwray as played by Victor Webster
Brennan Mulwray is a tough, yet vulnerable, street-smart wiseguy in his late 20s-with the astonishing ability to generate enough electricity from his own body to power a small city. A fast talking cavalier with an ingratiating grin, Brennan is a master of electricity - who throws bolts of energy from his fingertips. Brennan loves being a New Mutant - throwing off sparks is an absolute blast.

Jesse Kilmartin as played by Forbes March
Jesse Kilmartin is a sweetly naive and good-natured guy in his early 20s who can alter the density of his body at will - going from rock solid as a stone wall one moment-then walking through a stone wall the next. Jesse led a sheltered childhood, and still has a lot to learn about the harsh realities of the world, but he's more than proved himself an invaluable member of Mutant X.

Emma deLauro as played by Lauren Lee Smith
Emma deLauro is a mischievous knockout in her early 20's - a telempath who can communicate her own feelings - and receive the feelings of others around her. Emma can't read thoughts, but she can sense in great detail an emotional state of mind - and learn an awful lot about another person from it. When these gifts combine with her party girl personality, fun and trouble are a double guarantee.

Mason Eckhart as played by Tom McCamus
Mason Eckhart is the head of the Genetic Security Agency - a man who hunts down New Mutants for his conscience and his country. Eckhart blames Adam for the failed experiment that requires him to be forever insulated in an impermeable artificial skin. His distaste for New Mutants grows everyday that Mutant X exists. He won't rest until all these anomalies are under his control.

Show Description
"MUTANT X," the highly anticipated new weekly action hour, chronicles the adventures of MUTANT-X, a team of human mutants possessing extraordinary powers as a result of genetic engineering. Like hundreds of other unsuspecting subjects, these new mutants were altered in secret experiments conducted in a covert government project. Realizing that events have spun out of control, the organization that created them is now hunting them down in an urgent “product recall.” MUTANT-X’s mission is to seek out their fellow new mutants to help them come to terms with their astonishing abilities and protect them from their creators.

Press Release

August 9, 2001

Statement by Dick Askin, president and CEO of Tribune Entertainment, regarding this morning's decision by Judge Allen G. Schwartz of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York regarding the new syndicated action hour program "MUTANT X":

"This morning (August 9, 2001), the U.S. District Court overwhelmingly ruled in our favor by denying Fox's claims seeking a preliminary injunction to halt production and use of the title for our eagerly awaited new action hour program 'MUTANT.X' and dismissing all of the significant claims against Tribune Entertainment. We have always believed that there are no actionable similarities whatsoever between 'MUTANT.X' and the motion picture 'X-Men,' and are pleased that Judge Schwartz agreed with us and rejected Fox's efforts to stop the show.

To date, we've produced seven episodes of 'MUTANT.X' for its inaugural season, which will premiere the week of October 1st, and very much look forward to the long and successful run we anticipate this exciting program will enjoy."

Development Updates
11/14/01 -- We are past the half-way mark in production and the shows keep looking better and better!.

Stories have already been developed for the end of the season and we promise more than a few surprises. Let's just say that everything is not what it seems.
.
We are currently prepping a story entitled "The Lazarus Syndrome." After that episode shoots, we start production on "Presumed Guilty," which will star an actor who is very familiar to fans of our other show, "Andromeda". He's not one of the regular cast members, but he is definitely a fan favorite! In this episode, Adam is framed for murder. It's a great mystery episode that leaves our team to function without their leader. We also have a great episode for all the Jesse fans called "Blood Ties" that gives some great back story on the character as we introduce his father who is involved in some sticky business with the GSA. We were lucky enough to get John Fawcett to direct. For all of you horror fans John was the director of the cult hit film "Ginger Snaps". This will all lead up to our season finale that Howard Chaykin is working overtime to write himself.
.
The entire cast has been continuing their wire-work and martial arts training. Look for some intense fighting scenes in future episodes. Adam, himself, starts to kick some butt in an episode entitled, "Altered Ego". We actually just shot John Shea's first full action sequence and it was amazing!
.
The entire writing staff, cast, and crew have been rejuvenated since learning how well Mutant X did in the ratings. Everyone is working so hard to bring fans the level of action, excitement, and stellar story-telling, that makes MUTANT.X the show to watch this season.

7/25/01 -- All kinds of things are happening:
As of today, we are currently shooting our fifth episode entitled "Crime Of The New Century." It's an amazing kidnapping tale, but with a new mutant twist.
With four episodes already in the can, there is a lot to be excited about. The cast has already started acting and feeling like a family. What's incredible is how amazing the action looks. FYI -- most of the wirework is done by the cast themselves.
We have finished building our MUTANT-X aircraft (name to be announced later) and we are now looking at expanding our existing sets.
We had our first gallery shoot a couple of weeks ago and the photos look amazing. Expect to see the shots in the coming months.
We have recorded our theme music with a full orchestra and it sounds amazing! It's both progressive and heroic with a truly original sound. We are almost finished with our opening credits that tell the MUTANT-X story with some great visuals.
Look for the MUTANT-X cast (and other guests) at the Toronto Sci-Fi/Comic Convention August 25th.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5/24/01 -- Lots of meetings this week:
Final concept meetings are being held as we get ready to start production on June 4th.
We have the final cast, including actors for Eckhart and Adam.
Casting sessions took place for the guest star roles in the first episode.
Discussed visual representation of each Mutant's powers with our Visual Effects Supervisor.
Held meetings with our Directors and Directors of Photography to discuss new and bold looks for the show.
Scouted locations that will serve as exteriors for both the GSA and the MUTANT X Sanctuary.
Watched our actors doing wirework. All were impressive with Jesse and Brennan already doing backflips.
Met with a composer to discuss the theme music.
We're looking at animation and effects for the show's opening credits.
The sets are almost done and they look incredible!!! They're huge with lots of levels for action and camera angles.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4/30/01 -- Another look behind the scenes:
Sets are rapidly coming together as building occurs around the clock.
Camera tests next week to see what colors and textures/materials will read best on camera.
Wardrobe has designed individual styles for each actor and is in the process of buying and making the coolest clothes.
A training room is being constructed adjacent to the studio for our actors to practice wire-work in. The actors will start arriving on May 13th and immediately begin training.
The director list is almost complete, incorporating the most innovative and experienced directors that we can find.
We have a shooting order for the first five episodes and a new wave of first drafts will be delivered starting next week.
Location scouts have been occurring and our exterior of the GSA has been decided upon. Very cool and creepy!
Final cast information will be announced when casting is completed.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3/30/01 -- Things are moving at a rapid pace at MX Central.
We have cast three of our five lead roles...we can't release names yet but at least one of the three will be familiar to fans. Only two more to go!
Preliminary designs are in, and our Production designer has blown us away. You're going to love this.
The scripts keep coming in and the material is fantastic.
We've got a Stunt Coordinator from Hong Kong.
Laurie Drew, our Costume Designer, is working on designs with Howard Chaykin overseeing.
And you may have already seen the Press Release we sent out about Howard Chaykin.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3/15/01 -- Things keep moving forward.
Casting - We are now down to a short list. Screen tests are being done.
Production design - Rocco Matteo (La Femme Nikita) is working on set designs. On his drawing board are various vehicles the MUTANT_X team will be using as well as the MUTANT_X Sanctuary.
Writers - Howard Chaykin and staff are developing a variety of mutant characters.
Costumes - Howard Chaykin is overseeing the look of the Mutants and the GSA agents.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3/2/01 -- Things are moving forward at a fast and furious pace for MUTANT_X as we look forward to the start of production in June.
Extensive casting sessions have been completed.
The writers are all hard at work coming up with story ideas and beginning to put together scripts.
We move into our Toronto offices next week and start setting up for production. We are already assembling the top designers and visual effects people to add to the MUTANT X team.

New Intercepts
It's a two-fer Friday! We've come across a transmission from "Adam" and it looks like our buddy TagC has dug up (literally) something new. This is MUST-READ stuff! INTERCEPTED TRANSMISSION 092801 >> TAGC WEBSITE

Intercepted Transmission 92801
Sep 28, 2001
Unknown Intercepted Transmission
The following transmission was intercepted and confirmed as originating on the other side of the Gateway. We're assuming the "Adam" who signed it is the same dude we found on that members transmission.
Mrs. Matthys,
I want to offer you words of repentance and hope as you deal with the death of your son. This will in no way balance your loss but it may give you a source of strength. You should know that are those in this world who will not forget Seth. We will forge ahead to make certain that he and others like him become accepted and embraced by the rest of mankind. We will make it known that mutants are not freaks, but the products of freaks. I know this for fact, since I was once one of them.
For years I worked for the very forces that tampered with nature and created Seth's genetically altered generation. My scientific research and techniques were applied in unfathomable applications, far from what I intended. I was blind to this manipulation, but that in no way excuses my responsibility. My hands are just as bloody for what happened to your son as those of the ignorant boys who beat him. Rather than resign my knowledge and skills, I have chosen to use them to crusade, championing the cause of mutant progeny who are here because of me.
It is my sincere belief that this new breed of empowered youth are even more human at their core than any of us. They have an appreciation and a sense of life that an average man or woman overlooks. Their extraordinary abilities should not be feared, but accepted. As a parent of a loving boy who was simply born feeling others' emotions, you must have known this.
Mutants are no threat to our species. They are an extension of it. Above all, I am one who knows they did not ask to be here. There are those who would like to erase them. This faction would wipe out the entire generation or, even worse, shape them into a mindless army to serve their own twisted visions of the future. As long as I have breath in my all-too-normal body, every resource I can utilize will be put forth to battle their evil ranks and the deliberate misinformation they spread to the fearful masses. I am only sorry I could not do it in time to save your son.
I did not know Seth, Mrs. Matthys, but his courage in acknowledging himself as a new mutant and wearing it as a badge of honor instead of one of shame make me wish I had. Whenever my course seems lost, defeated or uninspired I will remember Seth.
Do not forgive me, but I hope you will be able to move past your pain,
Adam
