Benedict, Nick

Nick Benedict -- Played by Matt Cooke

Nick Benedict.

First Appearance: "Conspiracy Theory."

Quote: Nick Benedict: "Daniel, I feel obliged to warn you about the position you’re taking in this report tonight. You know, there have been threats."
Senator Daniel Richards: "I appreciate your concern, Nick. But I’m not going to allow genetic weapons research to continue. It’s ending here and now. I truly believe this is one of the most important issues in the country."
Nick: "Oh, I agree. In fact, I think it’s fair to say that it’s a matter of life and death."

Details: As the head of Project Contact, Nick Benedict hired the scientist Dr. Robert Harrow to create bacteria-carrying assassins to use against international enemies. Fearing that the nervous Dr. Harrow might expose his future plans, Nick used him as the first test assassination victim, and then carried on with his plans to assassinate Senator Daniel Richards before he could publicly announce his intentions to shut down national funding for genetic weapons research. With the help of ex-reporter Eddie Boyle, Mutant X intervened just in time to save Senator Richards's life, and Jesse Kilmartin knocked Nick unconscious with one punch.
