Mutant X's Second Season

DWF Mutant X's Second Season 2002/11/26 09:38 PM

Let's try talking about Mutant X's second season here.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CadenceM Re: Mutant X's Second Season 2002/11/26 10:59 PM

Hm. Well, after "A Sign From Above", hopefully things will be looking up from now on. (No pun intended.) ASFA was SOOOOO much better than the episode that came before it, "Crossroads of the Soul", which sucked many, many portions of ass. :: nod :: And I can't wait for more development with Emma and Adam (not as a couple, although that's there). Emma's getting darker, and Adam seems to be suffering from a strange male version of PMS...

DWF said quote: "Let's try talking about Mutant X's second season"

You used the word 'try'. and for some reason it seems to stick out like a MWS on a firefly's butt... Exactly how much is there to talk about? I've noticed that there haven't been many threads started since the new season began, as compared to last year, when there seemed to be a thread posted every week (or for every first run ep, to be more precise). The show hasn't dropped in quality since last season, but I've still haven't been...searching for the right word...passionately implored (?) to muster up any conversation over what I've seen. It's just an action hour to me , unfortunately, inspiring virtually little to no storylines to ponder over, The lone exception seems to be Emma's , dare I say, arc, and if it's handled properly could be something worthwhile....last weekends ep, don't know the title, was good for her I'll admit...at first I didn't like how she got played by the drug-induced mutie dude-if that's what he was, It was so obvious to me he was a plant, but the actor that was cast was really good, and really elevated the scenes he had with Emma, and sold me on it. And that's about all I can think of that resonated with me-positively anyways, about what's been shown thus far. I look forward to reading what others might try to say.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Drew Re: Mutant X's Second Season 2002/11/27 09:43 AM

Well, I could try to say something. I've channel-surfed past "Mutant X" a few times in the last two months, and all I've seen are scenes of pretty people hitting each other. Or is that all there is?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Norville Re: Mutant X's Second Season 2002/11/27 11:37 AM

I could indeed *try* to say something. Could I just say that... this is not a series I watch intentionally. However, I tend to see the last 5 or so minutes of it when I tune in a bit early for "Andromeda". This thing survived into a second season? (When I collected comics back in the '80s, I liked the X-Men. This series, which I guess was influenced by the X-Men, is something I'll continue not to watch, except in those 5-minute bites. Sorry, Seth, if you read this... )

And I intentionally don't watch it. And one of the reasons is spelled T-R-I-B-U-N-E. And I'm not sorry at all.

So, Seth here

http://www.slipstreambbs.com/ubb/Forum11/HTML/003727.html

you said: 'Arcs like DWF mentioned are a big no-no for us but I took a chance and it paid off. Look for more thrulines the entire season as we continue to build on our mythology.'

So who are ARCs a no-no for, MutantX or Tribune in general?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Crossroads" was a departure for us but I found that at it's core, the episode spoke volumes for how to continue to tell strong stories for so many years. I disagree with your take (actually it was a much stronger character story than ASFA, IMO)

With "The Future Revealed" all the Mutants are now faced with their own mortality and the fact that their genes are in a constant state of flux. Shalimar and Brennan are heating up the screen with their iminent romance and Emma and Adam have just too many secrets!

Almost every story this season is driven by one of our characters as opposed to just encountering a Mutant of the week and I feel that it has really strengthened the show. The audience wants to know what is going to happen to these guys and they care about them. That's what MX is all about this year.

I'm not impressed by MUTANT X 2.0 so far

voidprime I'm not impressed by MUTANT X 2.0 so far 2002/09/22 05:01 PM

I have watched the second season opener for mutant X and it left me feeling like I have watched THE BRIDE OF EARTH: FINAL CONFLICT SEASON FIVE.
S
P
O
I
L
E
R
S
WHAT'S GOOD:
the new Mutant X HQ
Shalimar has her same look
Emma's new look
the first half of the episode
no Matrix foo
Soo Garay

WHAT'S BAD:
Ashlocke's obsession with Shalimar is too drawn out.
Shalimar focusing too much on wanting Ashlocke dead.
the resurrection of an ancient Egyptian with magical healing powers
some fo the music feels like EFC music

In the end, I felt like I watched a Mutant X episode written by the writers of Earth: Final Conflict season five and the writers of Port Charles while ripping off elements from Hammer Horror films. It wasn't painful like EFC season five, but Mutant X will have to better than this episode for me to watch every season 2 episode. I miss Eckhart already and the GSA. The episode started good and then it turned into crap. Have a better one.

Stick with it for 8 episodes. If you don't think it gets better, please stop watching. I won't feel bad because at least then I can say you gave it a fair shot.
Thanks!

No vouching for accuracy, but this is from the Canadian TV Guide:

What's new: The writers have decided to switch gears in an attempt to re-energize the show. Also, because Tom McCamus has left the show, don't expect the return of his character, Mason.
Where it's Going: Look for stories that are darker and have more edge (like The X-Files). It will be revealed that Adam (John Shea) has a very dark past and we've been told not to rule out the death of a main character... gulp.

There is a three story mini-arc beginning with the premiere and then airing 3 and 5 that determine the fate of Ashlocke and all New Mutants. It takes our team back to 70's as well as brings them face to face with their own future. Brennan gets trapped behind enemy lines after attemting to rescue a downed fighter pilot. (and in another episode he finds the family he didn't know about!!) Shalimar looks into the eyes of what she could become...... Emma....well..........let's just say that Emma is more than she appears to be. there is a heck of a lot more but then what would be the point of watching?

(Actually, my favorites are Adam and Jesse...) Thanks for the dish, Seth. I see http://www.comicscontinuum.com/ is reporting that Sandrine Holt will be guesting in several eps, too! Looking forward to that. I've liked her since seeing her in JOHN WOO'S ONCE A THIEF (which, incidentally, will be here in syndication this fall! Woohoo!).

Sandrine only appears in one episode "The Future Revealed" which will air fifth. As for Adam, we do meet some people from his past as he learns that hiding in Sanctuary may not be the best idea. And wait til Ashlocke drops a huge bombshell on him that makes Adam rethink everything that he is doing. (...and he runs into his younger self in Time Squared and it's pretty brilliant!!) And as for our friend Jesse, well, he only has to find a way to stop a nuclear meltdown that could wipe out half the population. Not bad for the second episode of the season

I think the official boards are getting better. They made a seperate folder for the "Who's Hottest" threads. Anyway, I should have known to stay away from these spoilers. I can't wait twenty days! I can't! And it doesn't help that I'm waiting more for the second episode of the season than the first. It just doesn't. Mainly because Young!Adam has piqued my interest.

(Doesn't matter, he'll just stare blankly at me anyway while I get my rants out about being too impatient to wait seven days between each episode.) Now I've got to busy myself with other stuff just because I'm so impatient.
EDIT: Guess this means I'll have a lot of time to work on my "Undies Hunter" series. So, what do you think for each of the characters of MX -- boxers, briefs, boxer-briefs, unmentionables, or none at all? :: grins evilly ::

Goes to official site to get names of episodes

Lit Fuse Despite its title, it really didn't spark much for me. I thought the storyline was a little bland.

In the Presence of Mine Enemies Call me weird, but it was actually the two girls that played the Red Queen and White Queen that made me keep on flipping channels.

Crime of the New Century Again, the young boy made me keep flipping channels.

Blood Ties I think this was the first time that I was ever annoyed with Jesse, so when I got disgusted, I flipped it off.

Too tired to really get into a lot details, so feel free to email me at SidheScarlet@aol.com, and let me know what you think of my reasoning.

CadenceM Re: Mutant X (potential) spoilers #246985 - 2002/09/10 12:04 PM

Now you want to know what episodes people liked? Even if you didn't ask me, I'll go ahead and get my two cents out. (I'll be broke by the time I'm finished.)

Altered Ego - Why? Because Adam got to be just plain freaky in this one. Charlotte was just annoying, but, hey, she made Adam evil for half an episode, so who am I to complain? Anyway, the entire scene with Adam chasing Shalimar around Sanctuary was one of my favorite scenes in all of the first season.

Dancing on a Razor - This was probably one of the best episodes. Okay, maybe not, since that reporter guy (whose name is not worth remembering) was a major pain, but the end was great. The showdown between Adam and Mason was cheer-worthy. And it was great to see that it was Mason that backed down, not Adam, which gets it into my head that Mason's more honorable than Adam in some ways...

And here's one I just have to add in for a strange reason...

Crime of the New Century - More Adam points. Sorry, it' just funny because throughout the entire episode, the way Adam grins just makes him look at least slightly drunk. Oh, and the Jesse/Brennan bickering was quite entertaining. It was gross seeing Jesse stick that much pizza in his mouth. :: shudders ::
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HBKid Re: Mutant X (potential) spoilers #246986 - 2002/09/10 01:33 PM

I guess I might as well add my thoughts on my favorite/least favorite episodes of MX.
Top 5 Favorites

1. Fool for Love
Good episode for Shalimar. Kind of touching as well.

2. White Shade of Pale
Perhaps my favorite of the first season. I liked wondering if Catherine was perhaps Adam's daughter, or Eckerts. And the actress who played Danielle, Guyline St. Onge, was nice eye candy. Good episode for Adam also as he reunites with an old flame and sadly learns Catherine isn't his daughter. I hope you guys bring Danielle and Catherine back in a future episode, perhaps even reveal who the father is. Another scene I loved was the scene where Eckert and his lacky have dinner, the lacky dies after eating the poisoned food, and Eckert remarks, "My compliments to the chef". Tom McCamus made that scene wonderful.

3. Altered Ego
Another good Adam episode.

4. Nothing to Fear
I always liked "worst fear" episodes, as they can be revealing character-wise and tend to be dark and gritty. This one seemed a bit darker than previous episodes, and I liked it for that.

5. Dancing on the Razor
I knew it was just a matter of time before there was a "caught on tape" episode. I liked the reporter, just sad that he turned out to be slime. It would be nice to see some non-mutants befriend a mutant and be nice to a mutant or fall in love with a mutant because they are a decent person, not just out of sympathy. Perhaps there will be more of that in the new season.

Top 5 I Didn't Like Much

1. In the Presence of Mine Enemies
For some reason, I couldn't get into this episode, and find myself never attempting to watch it again. Perhaps if I watch it I can determine better why.

2. Interface
I like Emma and Emma episodes, but there seemed to be so many mid-season, and this one didn't do anything for me. The special effects were nice though, I thought.

3. Ex Marks the Spot
Had some good moments (mainly the heist), but overall it wasn't anything I'd go back and watch again.

4. A Breed Apart
Perhaps Season 2 will change my mind on this episode, but I felt this episode happend way too fast. Not thrilled about the new powers at this time, and sad to see Eckert depart, though direction-wise I can understand that Eckert wouldn't fit in as well. Though I hope we see him again in season 2. Overall, I felt "Dancing on the Razor" made for a better Season Finale, despite the fact it wasn't such and was aired out or order.

5. Deadly Desire
Good to see a Brennan episode, as well as the return of one of his thief friends from the first episode. Krista Allen was nice eye candy, but overall the episode didn't do much for me.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BlueLotus Re: Mutant X (potential) spoilers #246987 - 2002/09/10 02:14 PM

Top five favorites:
Fool for Love -- Great Shalimar episode, if a little sad.

Double Vision -- Getting to see an Emma that's slightly shady was cool. She really did that episode well.

Altered Ego -- Oooohhhh...evil Adam. This was another awesome episode.

Nothing to Fear -- Just a really good episode, especially dealing with the fears. I liked how Emma was able to put the music in his mind. Also, a tad darker than other episodes.

A Breed Apart -- The introduction of Gabriel (who I love), and the growing of powers. I knew it had to happen, and this episode dealt with it very well.

Xiphan Re: Mutant X (potential) spoilers #246988 - 2002/09/10 02:17 PM

Did anybody but me not like Kilohertz? I thought it was filled with a particular amout of bad dialogue attempting to be witty but just fell flat. The guy who played Kilohertz was also annoying. Yet Deadly Desire was one of my faves. (behind Fool for Love) because I was surprised that Krista Allen actauly had some acting talent and did her job well. And getting out of sanctuary more in the second season is just what the show needs
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CadenceM Re: Mutant X (potential) spoilers #246989 - 2002/09/10 02:29 PM

I hated Kilohertz as well. That guy was just so annoying. And, like someone said over at the official boards, the whole talk about the morality of using subdermal governers was just stupid. You'd think that they would compare the amount of people it saves against the one person it limits. And, I know it's not specific, but those electricity poles are really getting to me. Every other evil company carries around guns, why can't Genomex lackies?

I hope it all goes well.

"Will attempt to make first contact this week. I appreciate your patience and understanding"

Take your time. I thought that all the recent Brennan fangirls -- who, might I add, are living in a fantasy world -- had scared you away, since they've all decided to start having catfights.

Where to start? I dunno. Beware the Victor/Brennan topics. Just post your own if you want.

:: sniffles :: A few people left because of the fighting that was going on. It's stopped, though, but it'll be a while before they come back.

Mutant X Update(Spoilers)

DWF Mutant X Update(Spoilers) 2002/08/31 09:19 PM

Here's a link to some spoilers and pictures, for Mutant X's second season. The good news is that, they're doing more location shooting, and the actors do look alittle different.

It's going into a second season? I didn't watch Mutant X past the first episode. For those of you that do like the series, does it get better after that and would you consider the second season worth watching?

Yes, they're going into their season. And yes, you should check it out, the show did improved alot towards the end, I thought. There wasn't as much slo-mo, and more charactization in the last several, than in the beginning.

Mmmmmmm...Forbes March looks yummy. And Lindy Booth as the guest mutant for the week...I guess I'll have to give Mutant X another shot. See if it keeps my attention beyond the first commercial break this year. Niko

Trailers for Mutant X and Adventure Inc

MegL Trailers for Mutant X and Adventure Inc 2002/08/22 12:38 PM

Please, lets try not to turn this thread into the off topic mess the last one about "Adventures Inc." morphed into. First, they've moved the San Diego Comic Con page from Tribtv.com and have added new movies for "Mutant X" and "Adventure Inc." (both large downloads and in smaller segment downloads).

http://www.andromedatv.com/community/comicon/comiconphotos.html

I want to say that the "Adventure Inc." trailer is very good! I'm not very familier with Michael Biehn but he does catch my attention

Also, I have a question for Seth. That is Von Flores (E:FC) in the trailer at the 1:45 mark of the full trailer, isn't it? He's gained a little bit of weight, and they did something weird to his hair, but it sure does sound like him. However, I figure I'd better ask to make sure.

Meg

PS: The "Mutant X" movie was also interesting. I just thought the "Adventure Inc." one was more so since I've not seen or heard anything much that gave me a feel for the show, prior to watching the trailer.

Dang, you beat me to it, I was just gonna post this myself IMDB doesn't list his appearance yet and his Fan Club hasn't been updated in over a year so no info there but it sure looks and sounds like him. Good work everyone involved, I'm sure he'll give a great performance! [If this post appears twice, I'm sorry. It didn't send the first time]
